The Community
Corinth was established in 1880 when the Dallas-Wichita railroad came through the area. Corinth’s growth was quite slow, with its population only at 461 by 1970. When Intestate Highway 35 was built near Corinth, the town’s population still remained small, though other cities began to grow around it due to more incoming residents.
Corinth is an attractive community for many young families due to its affordable housing located in well-planned communities and accessibility to excellent school systems. Residents of Corinth are also conveniently close to many popular retail shops, entertainment, and recreational facilities. Although Corinth has grown tremendously over the past decade, it still retains the charm and beauty of its countryside.
HISTORY OF CORINTH, TEXAS
Corinth is just off Farm Road 315 sixteen miles southwest of Carthage in southwestern Panola County. It was settled around the time of the Civil War and developed around a church called Corinth. A school was in operation there by the mid-1890s; in 1897 it had an enrollment of forty-one black students. In the mid-1930s the community had a church, a school, a cemetery, and a number of houses. Its school was later closed, and its students were transferred to the Carthage or Gary schools. By the mid-1960s only a church, a cemetery, and a few scattered dwellings remained in the area.
The City of Corinth, which incorporated September 19, 1960, is located in the north-central portion of Texas. This area of the state has proven to be one of the top growth areas in Texas and the United States. The City currently occupies a land area of 8 square miles and serves a growing population of approximately 20,000. In 1990 Corinth was still a dispersed rural community. Corinth has operated under the council-manager form of government since May 6, 1999.

Corinth is located at 33°8′38″N 97°4′20″W (33.143952, -97.072194). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.9 square miles (20 km2), of which 7.9 square miles (20 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2), or 0.63%, is water.
